Though several agencies are listed below that are possible placement sites, your placement need not be limited to these sites. Let us know what your interests and skills are, and we will find you a placement site that is fulfilling.

 

Camp Fire USA

The Camp Fire USA provides programs which develop personal skills, social responsibility, healthy lifestyles and leadership skills for high risk youth between the ages of 5 and 14. The focus of Camp Fire is in providing programs, including self-reliance courses in the schools, outdoor opportunities and after school enrichment programs, in neighborhoods where children live.  

Heart Ministry Center

An outreach of Sacred Heart Church in Omaha, the Heart Ministry Center serves clients from the community at large including all races and religions. The Heart Center provides individuals and families assistance with food, clothing, rent, utilities, personal care items, and funeral expenses, to name a few services. The LSC volunteer will provide a variety of services to assist the poor and homeless.

Hospice House

Hospice House provides housing, care and support for persons with terminal illnesses and their families. They strive to promote life and dignity in death in a home-like, peaceful facility. The volunteer at Hospice House serves as the volunteer coordinator for Hospice House volunteers.

Literacy Center for the Midlands

The Literacy Center for the Midlands provides one-on-one tutoring and/or computer-assisted instruction for functionally illiterate adults. The Literacy Center works with American adults and teaches English for speakers of other languages. 

Social Settlement

Social Settlement has programs for both children and senior citizens. The Kids Can! programs focus on building self-esteem, confidence and skills in children. They provide preschool, tutoring, before and after school programs, and full day programs. The Seniors on the go! programs provide services to promote the well-being of older adults by empowering them to lead lives of independence, health, and dignity. The LSC volunteer may work in one or both programs.

Trinity Lutheran Church

Trinity is an inner city church in north Omaha, one block from LSC’s residence. Their mission is to Praise God, Inspire Youth, and Love North Omaha. The Lutheran Service Corps volunteer is a full time staff member at Trinity, working with youth in the church, and reaching out to the youth in the north Omaha neighborhood.

Voices for Children in Nebraska

Voices for Children defines and promotes public policies affecting children. They monitor legislation and programs which impact on children; building media awareness on current issues regarding children; do research, educating, and raising public awareness about  advocacy and specific issues such as child abuse, juvenile justice, foster care, and day care; and sponsor conferences, community meetings, and training on children's issues. Volunteers will have close contact with service providers, legislators and public officials. Legal degree or background is helpful.

YWCA- Women Against Violence

The Women Against Violence Program (WAV), a program of the Omaha YWCA, provides assistance to victims of sexual assault, child sexual assault, and domestic violence, as well as their families and friends. Services include a 24-hour hotline, individual and group counseling, medical and legal advocacy. Public education is also a vital component of the program.
